Had a black coffee and a latte. There are better ones around. A quiet place to rest feet.
Ortus by Grind Coffee formerly operated as a beloved specialty cafe at Aperia Mall, located at 12 Kallang Avenue #01-40 in Singapore's innovative mixed-use development between Lavender and Bendemeer MRT stations. This unique establishment captured the essence of vintage coffee culture through carefully curated decor featuring antique coffee grinders, restored record players, and classic typewriters from owner Frankie Lee's personal collection, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that transported visitors to coffee's golden era. The cafe operated Monday-Friday 8am-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-6pm, serving Singapore's coffee enthusiasts and food lovers who appreciated the combination of specialty single-origin beans and quality dining in an authentically vintage setting.
The cafe distinguished itself through exclusive use of single-origin coffee beans, with particular emphasis on regional varieties like those sourced from Chiang Mai, Thailand, showcasing the complex flavors achievable through careful sourcing and expert preparation. Ortus by Grind Coffee's signature iced coffee (.50) and classic espresso-based beverages (from .50) demonstrated the cafe's commitment to coffee craftsmanship, while the comprehensive food menu featuring interesting, well-executed dishes proved that the establishment offered much more than typical coffee shop fare. Customer reviews consistently praised both the "pretty legit" food quality and the unique vintage ambiance that made dining visits feel like journeys through coffee history and culture.
Unfortunately, Ortus by Grind Coffee has permanently closed, representing the loss of a unique dining and coffee destination that contributed significantly to Aperia Mall's diverse culinary landscape. During its operation, the cafe served as a "great little gem" that combined serious coffee expertise with quality food preparation, creating memorable experiences for customers who discovered this hidden treasure within Aperia's retail environment. While the Grind Coffee brand continues operations elsewhere in Singapore, the closure of this specific location marks the end of a distinctive coffee culture experience that showcased how independent cafes can create community spaces that honor coffee traditions while serving contemporary Singapore's diverse dining preferences and lifestyle needs.

The coffee is average, as it was when Grind was at One Raffles Place. It looks better than it tastes. There's a problem with the milk and the beans. The coffee had a cigarette aftertaste. It has not kept up with the standards from when Grind was at the Arcade, when the owner was the barista.

Delicious food and coffee. Their iced latte is a must! Rich and smooth. Their Coffee Pork Burger is highly recommended. With no GST or service charge, it’s value for money. Follow my food journey on IG @zanthrea.

Here's the edited review: **Food:** The food is worth more than every penny you paid for. Small kitchen, but amazing. Grilled squid is the best in Singapore (at least for me). The 'cheapo' but not-so-cheapo big breakfast (it's really big and high quality; don't worry about presentation). The ribeye is another of my favourites (the price and quality are hard to find in Singapore). **Space:** Spacious and good for gatherings or private events. Can accommodate more than 70 people. **Ambience:** Relaxed atmosphere, with high and low tables available based on your preference. Sorry, no cushions. **Cleanliness:** Cleaner than your house. Hygiene is a basic for F&B. **Beverage:** They offer a variety of beverages (sorry, no juice or bubble tea). Everything is self-made. I prefer coffee, coffee, and more coffee. Currently in stock: Brazil and India. You might get Thailand if you're lucky. Beans differ from season to season. Learn to appreciate the beans and ask if you're not sure. Frankie is more than happy to introduce them (don't be shy). If you're free, then drop by, keep calm, enjoy coffee, and make friends.

A good simple place for coffee and nice, unique deco.

Known for their strong and robust coffee. Iced coffee is very smooth and fragrant. The beef ribs are very juicy and well-grilled. Mussels and clams are among the best I have ever tasted! These are only available on their dinner menu, though.

Great value. I had a chai and beef with noodles, which came with a free Perrier for liking them on FB. Everything was tasty. The Wi-Fi is the free SGWifi network.

I loved the signature iced coffee! I followed Grind Coffee from ORP to Aperia Mall, and they didn't let me down :) I'm loving the new vibes, and the food is great as well!!

Scrambled eggs on toast with pork sausage: cooked superbly. Cappuccino was just decent - with average body and aroma, and slightly burnt.

A simple cafe, but it served nice coffee and food. Their homemade chilli will satisfy your sambal craving. Take too much, and it will hit the roof of your head.

Nasi lemak without nasi; noodles instead. They should've served the chicken boneless/sliced/cut, or else we would need chopsticks, fork, and spoon. Chicken thigh $14, duck $14 (on promotion).

A surprise weekend encounter at Aperia Mall. The place smelled super good when we passed by! Walked in and had Afterburner (ginger coffee), signature iced coffee, and Ortus coffee pork bun. The piece of pork in the pork bun was very tender, juicy, and flavourful. Definitely will be back again!

First time trying this place, and I was attracted by their pasta special: “Forest mushroom sriracha spaghetti with roasted pork belly.” I told the friendly staff I don't eat spicy food, and they were kind enough to change it to a cream sauce for me! The pasta was excellent, the pork belly crispy and juicy, and it really hit the spot. And for $15?! More than reasonable. I highly recommend it, and I'll be back to try their OMG Burger for sure!

Full marks for the drinks. The flat white is fragrant, mellow, and easy to drink. The pandan and lemongrass tea is made from real pandan and lemongrass, and the overall taste is extremely balanced. Unfortunately, the food isn’t that good. The toasted sourdough bread is so hard it’s almost impossible to cut. And the bee Hoon has some parts that clumped together and seems soggy. The anchovies are very hard too. I will come back for the drinks, not the food.

OMG, best chicken burger I've had; the combination is wonderful! The price is definitely worth it. The portion is big and generous with the ingredients. The pasta is generous with bacon, and the meat portion is big. All the meat on the salad and in the spaghetti has been marinated and cooked, which is seldom seen elsewhere. The coffee is great as well; I love the iced coffee. Very delicious food and drinks! Highly recommended!
